I would say that there is a thin line between being helpful and being painful.
Help those who welcome it as far as you can.
Though some people work better doing their own thing. These ones you should rather let be. Keep an eye on them and lead where needed and let them know you are still there and an e-mail away.
By taking on more personal form of communications and on-on-one mails you will get to know which is which.
